Supergirl (2015)
CBS announced they had picked up the rights to make Supergirl a while ago. But now they've released the first look/trailer of the new show set to premiere this fall.

What do you think of the trailer? Is this a show you'd watch?

RE: Supergirl (TV 2015)
I've watched the first few episodes of this show and, for the most part, it's not terrible. The action is alright (considerably better than anything Smallville ever did... which is a really nice step up). They actually have real fights that last more than a single punch. Their fights actually have some choreography to them.

The special effects quality ranges a fair bit. I mean they can be cheesy looking in a few places (like when Kara is flying in a few places, it looks like they used lower grade CGI to save time/budget) but at other times they're really solid (like whenever Kara uses heat vision).

I do find that, so far, each episode has at least one really cringeworthy moment buried somewhere within. It's nowhere's near as bad as some of the moments in Arrow or Flash (see spoiler for details) but it seems like the fact there's one each episode doesn't bode well. Things like Kat Grant's feminist propaganda from episode 1. (We get it, Women/Girls are great. But no one really said otherwise. This whole scene feels hamfisted and stuffed in there predominantly to serve a marketing checkbox. Like "Hey, we have strong women". )

Spoiler:
Some of the really cringeworthy moments from Flash would be when Barry tells Iris, at the worst possible time, who he is and that he loves her. Make that every time Barry (or Oliver) revealed his secret identity...

Sisco gets one in season 2 when he hits on Kenda Saunders.

As for characters, I like the actresses and actors here. They do a good job a portraying their characters. Melissa Benoist makes a pretty good Supergirl and she actually does a pretty convincing job of making Kara and Supergirl look different through her demeanour, hair style/colour, glasses, clothing choice, posture and voice. (A fact that Clark Kent/Superman can't so easily claim. Not that we really see either of them here. But in other media.)

Kat Grant makes an interesting boss-from-hell (threatening to fire a character if they wouldn't abuse a position of power they held with another character) while also having some qualities that make her sympathetic and relatable (her relationship with her son).

The music is just kind of there. There's nothing really stand-out good but it's not ear shreddingly bad either. (Maybe not things I'd listen to otherwise of course.)

Overall I'm probably going to watch the rest of the season. It has enough going for it that I can overlook the negative parts of it.

RE: Supergirl (TV 2015)
So Supergirl and The Flash just aired a crossover episode...

I thought this episode was pretty good. Though it did have it's share of issues...
Spoiler:

- Why would the DEO allow people to roam the halls unescorted?
- How did Siobhan/Silver Banshee find Livewire's base?
- Barry using lightning on the electrically powered enemy...
- Why would Livewire and Banshee fight in a park which would be a massive disadvantage to them? (Open space for Supergirl and the Flash to dodge, not much electrical components for Livewire to use.)
- The whole people step in and saving Supergirl felt too rushed and too neatly wrapped up the fight.

Also can they please get better about the secret identities thing? I mean seriously, they're secret for a reason. Don't be showing/telling everyone.

Also I'd like if they toned down the relationship drama shit. It's tiring to watch Kara pine after James while James is torn between her and Lucy. And then Wynn on the side pining after Kara and trying to compete against James. I mean I've kind of had my fill of this crap from the other shows like Flash and Arrow.

On the good side though, Barry and Kara looked like they were having fun playing off each other.
Barry and Wynn also got along together great and it was nice to see Wynn able to talk to someone who could understand him.
Cat was really sharp this episode and I liked her pop culture references. (Good shot at the CW and Smallville.)

I feel like either the team up should have been longer (where they spend an episode building up things before the next episode resolving everything) or have some elements trimmed out to deal with later. I mean Myriad could have waited until next episode. So could have that bit where people forgave Supergirl.

So Supergirl is getting renewed for season 2... but it's moving to CW in the process.

So this means expect more crossovers with Flash and Arrow. Also, the relationship drama crap is about to go into overdrive.
